Plans Underway to Reopen White Nile Sugar Factory and Revive Key Industries

Sudan’s Minister of Industry and Trade, Mahasin Ali Yaqoub, has announced ongoing preparations to restart operations at the White Nile Sugar Factory, alongside several other industrial facilities in the state.

During a meeting in Port Sudan on Sunday with White Nile State Governor Qamar al-Din Fadl al-Moula, Minister Yaqoub reaffirmed her ministry’s commitment to supporting industrial development and production revival across the region.

The two officials discussed key industrial challenges in the state and reviewed the ministry’s plan to address obstacles facing the sugar and cement industries, including Aseelaya Sugar Factory and Rabak Cement Factory.

Minister Yaqoub also revealed plans for new industrial projects in the state, such as fish canning plants and prosthetics manufacturing facilities, emphasizing that efforts are ongoing to reactivate sugar factories nationwide as part of Sudan’s broader economic recovery strategy.

The initiative reflects the government’s drive to revitalize the manufacturing sector, restore job opportunities, and strengthen domestic production amid the country’s challenging economic conditions.
