Khartoum to Relocate Central Market Bus Terminal to Ease Traffic Congestion

Khartoum authorities have approved a proposal to relocate the main public transport terminal near Al-Siniyah Tunnel in the Central Market area to alternative locations, aiming to ease traffic congestion and eliminate random bus stops.
The decision came during a meeting held on Sunday by the joint committee comprising representatives from Khartoum Locality, security agencies, and the Bus Drivers’ Union.
Chaired by Kamal Awad Al-Karim, Director of the General Administration for Financial and Administrative Affairs in Khartoum Locality, the committee emphasized the importance of preparing the new designated terminals with all necessary facilities before the relocation process begins.
According to the plan, bus operators will be notified at least one week prior to the move through the drivers’ union. The committee also directed a field inspection of the proposed locations to finalize logistical arrangements and define new traffic routes for public transport vehicles.
Additionally, the meeting decided to establish permanent checkpoints to prevent buses from returning to the current random and unauthorized stations, ensuring smoother traffic flow in the Central Market district.
Officials described the move as part of Khartoum’s broader urban management and transport reform plan, aimed at improving road safety and public mobility efficiency across the capital.
