Sudan to Use Artificial Intelligence to Monitor Mining Sector and Curb Smuggling

Sudan’s Ministry of Minerals and the Ministry of Digital Transformation and Communications have agreed to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to strengthen oversight of the mining sector and combat mineral smuggling.

The joint meeting, held in Khartoum, was chaired by Minister of Minerals Noor Al-Daeem Taha and Minister of Digital Transformation Dr. Ahmed Al-Dardiri Gandour, with the participation of Undersecretary of the Ministry of Minerals Dr. Hind Siddig Adam and Director-General of the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company, Mohamed Taher Omar.

According to an official statement, the meeting is part of a comprehensive national plan aimed at ensuring full control over production, transport, and export operations — from mining sites to local and international markets — through the creation of a centralized digital monitoring system that enhances transparency and increases state revenues.

Both ministers emphasized the importance of coordination between the two ministries to advance digital transformation and implement modern technological solutions across the sector.

They also noted that the Ministry of Minerals recently approved a new plan to secure mining companies and markets, regulate transportation and export processes, and apply cutting-edge monitoring systems.

The meeting concluded by stressing the urgency of adopting AI technologies within government operations to improve production tracking, optimize resource management, and drive a transformative leap in Sudan’s national economy.
