Sudan Targets 80 Tons of Gold Production in 2025, Strengthening Its Lead in the Arab World

Sudan aims to produce more than 80 tons of gold in 2025, reinforcing its position as the largest gold producer in the Arab world, according to Mohamed Taher Omar, Director-General of the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company.

Information obtained by Al-Rai Al-Sudani indicates that the mining sector has achieved strong growth, with production reaching 37 tons in the first half of 2025 and expected revenues of around $3 billion by year’s end.

Despite ongoing security and economic challenges, Sudan’s mining industry has shown relative stability, particularly in River Nile, Northern, and Red Sea states.

Traditional mining continues to expand rapidly, employing nearly four million workers nationwide, underscoring the sector’s crucial role in supporting the national economy and creating job opportunities.

As part of its strategic plan, the Sudanese government is intensifying oversight of production and export operations to curb gold smuggling and ensure that the nation fully benefits from its natural resources.

Officials have also expressed optimism about the return of international mining companies once stability improves, signaling renewed confidence in the future of Sudan’s mineral sector and its contribution to sustainable economic recovery.
