Power Struggle Erupts Within RSF Over Control of Gold-Rich Fouja in Kordofan

Reliable sources have revealed deep internal divisions within Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) over the administrative control of Fouja — one of Kordofan’s richest gold-mining regions — amid intensifying competition between rival RSF units.
According to information obtained by Al-Rai Al-Sudani, the dispute stems from conflicting claims of authority between RSF units stationed in Al-Nuhud, West Kordofan, and groups operating in Al-Hamra and Umm Badr, both seeking to annex Fouja under their respective administrative zones.
Field commanders in Al-Hamra and Umm Badr have reportedly demanded that Fouja be placed under the administration of North Kordofan, while RSF forces in Al-Nuhud insist on its affiliation with West Kordofan. This dispute has fueled mounting tensions over recent months, raising security concerns in the region.
Sources confirmed that intensive meetings are now being held between civil and military administrations in both North and West Kordofan, as security officials warn that the administrative dispute could spiral into wider social unrest, further destabilizing the area.
The economic significance of Fouja is at the heart of the conflict. The area is a key hub for traditional gold mining and a major source of local revenue, making control over it a strategic objective for competing factions.
Observers caution that any military or political escalation in Fouja could reshape the balance of power in Kordofan, where competition over gold resources and traditional trade routes continues to intensify.
